Fairfax County Government Data Center HVAC & Controls and Generator
SWSG provided architecture and engineering services to prepare construction documents and a minor site plan to upgrade an existing data center for Fairfax County, Virginia. The project included interior renovation of the raised floor data center space and upgrades to the existing UPS, generator, and HVAC systems. The design included a new chilled water system, high-density HVAC equipment, structural modifications, upgraded CRAC HVAC system, upgraded UPS system, new power distribution units and a new 1.5 MW generator.
Children’s National Medical Center Emergency Power
The permanent generator additions at Children’s began with a facility assessment report to develop a scope of work for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection to upgrade the data center infrastructure. SWSG engineers designed the installation of four 1-MW generators and paralleling gear feeding 42 existing closed transition automatic transfer switches. The new generators were installed under the hospital heliport and required close coordination with flight operations. A second phase to the project included designs for three 1.5 MW generators and paralleling switchgear, and distribution gear. SWSG also designed an innovative 48,000 gallon fuel system for the emergency and standby power systems of the hospital complex. The system was integrated with the existing underground fuel storage tank.
