Leesburg Jail Intensive-Level Survey

Leesburg, VA

SWSG provided A/E services for an intensive-level survey with components necessary to make a Virginia Department of Historic Resources survey. A history of the site was prepared, exterior and interior photographs were taken. An analysis of the building construction and materials and an archaeological investigation with preservation recommendations was performed. An intensive-level survey was conducted and recorded with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. A history of the site was prepared to determine if earlier jails and/or French and Indian forts contribute to the site’s significance. An analysis of the building construction and materials and an archaeological investigation with preservation recommendations was performed.

Manassas Gap Railroad Engineering Survey

Annandale, VA

Investigations into 19th-century civil engineering railroad construction practices, and engineering analysis of the causes of the structural failures, assisted in the planning of culvert repair recommendations. Allen Cochran, of Cochran’s Stone Masonry, consulted. SWSG’s civil engineers estimated historic stormwater runoff within the tributary area, and determined that while historic civil engineers accurately sized the culverts at the time, new development increased runoff flows causing damage to the culverts.
