Ft. Belvoir Hospital Complex

Ft. Belvoir, VA

Ft. Belvoir Hospital is one of SWSG’s larger structural engineering projects. SWSG provided structural engineering services for design and construction documents of the cold-formed steel exterior, interior, and parapet framing systems for the new construction of a nine-story community hospital complex located on Fort Belvoir in Northern Virginia. The SWSG design included an innovative bracing system to protect the exterior walls of the building from blast loads using braces that extended from the exterior wall beyond the spandrel (perimeter) beams to interior floor beams. This gives the exterior walls additional stability in the case of an unexpected impact load. In addition, construction phase framing was checked for numerous construction equipment and material staging loads to insure the stability of the incomplete framing during construction.

SE Louisanna Veterans Hospital

Baton Rouge, LA

The SE Louisiana Veterans Hospital is a new multi-building hospital campus covering twelve city blocks totaling 29 acres. Buildings for which SWSG provided services include:  Inpatient, Diagnostic & Treatment, Outpatient, Transitional Living  & Rehabilitation, and Central Energy Plant. Total gross square footage of the project is approximately 1.6 million sq. ft.  SWSG provided structural engineering services for exterior cold-formed steel framing for blast loads as well as hurricane wind loads.

Howard Hughes Medical Research

Ashburn, VA

SWSG provided structural engineering services for a new medical research facility in eastern Loudoun County. The design included cold-formed steel soffit framing below the concrete balcony slab supporting a metal deck ceiling. A structural analysis and design of knee walls to support continuous window systems up to 33’-0” wide was included. Two overhead rolling doors in the Servery were supported by SWSG designed cold-formed steel framing.
