Prior to relocation of the Oakton Schoolhouse, SWSG prepared a historic structure report, which included an architectural condition assessment and summary of primary restoration recommendations. An analysis of the building materials and construction techniques was performed to determine the phases of building additions.
Colvin Run Miller’s House HSR & Treatment Plan
Great Falls, VA
SWSG provided historical architecture and engineering services to prepare a Historic Structures Report, treatment plan, and opinion of probable cost for the Miller’s House. The treatment plan was prepared for the rehabilitation of the house which would allow for office and museum use while emphasizing repairs. A historical finish analysis was conducted and an environmental evaluation, including asbestos testing, of the house was conducted. Preservation and restoration efforts sought to create an authentic historic experience that supports interpretations for the 1810 – 1935 period of significance. Colvin Mill Historic Site is listed on the Fairfax County Virginia Landmark Register and the National Register of Historic Places. It is also considered a Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
