Showcasing SWSG designs currently being developed, constructed, or completed

Signatures of Loudoun Award 2011: Purcellville Historic Roller Rink

SWSG received a 2011 Signatures of Loudoun Award for Design Excellence from the Loudoun County Economic Development Association which honors Loudoun’s diverse architectural achievements. SWSG’s primary goals for this project were to retain and display the character-defining features of the facility and minimize the costs of the repairs. A hidden cold-formed frame was designed to support a lighter roof and preserve the timber frame. MEP engineering removed the exterior HVAC units and designed a geothermal system, fire protection, and security features for the building.

Purcellville Ticket Booth

PURCELLVILLE, VA – The Town of Purcellville desired to install a small building at the front entrance of Firemen’s Field. The new structure acts as an entrance gate and used for ticket sales and crowd control.  The building was built within an easement area and complied with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR). SWSG provided historical architecture, architecture, structural and electrical engineering services to coordinate compliance with VDHR and developed plans and specifications for the building suitable for bidding and permitting.   Construction Administration services were also provided.

Penn State Pegula Arena

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The newly constructed Pegula Ice Arena is a 6,000 seat multi-purpose ice arena on the campus of Penn State University. Structural engineering services were provided by SWSG for cold-formed steel exterior framing and metal panel wall sheathing for the hockey arena. Calculations and coordination of plan layouts were included for the three-level 183,000 SF arena located on the corner of Curtin Road and University Drive.

Norristown Switch Center Addition

NORRISTOWN, PA – The 26,000 SF Norristown central office project includes all new medium voltage utility service, 3 mW (N+1) stand-by power system, modular chilled water system, HD cooling preparation, BMS system, and power distribution. SWSG provided comprehensive AE design and construction management services for this multi-phase project. A follow-on project included replacement of the existing DC power systems. The main project included a 6,000 SF data center addition to the existing telephone central office facility. The new generators and chillers were also installed.

Bellevue Electronics Lab and Data Center

BELLEVUE, WA – SWSG provided full-time on-site construction management and comprehensive AE design services for this 30,000 SF electronics lab – data center project. Bellevue included all new utility infrastructure, back-up power systems, chilled water HVAC, BMS system, and electrical distribution. The new facility was designed inside an existing shell warehouse as a “building-within-a-building”. The mechanical system includes CRAC cooling in the data center area. The new chillers include free-cooling modes of operation. SWSG provided design documents for a new building management system (BMS) allowing the contractor to install the wiring, conduit, and connections. SWSG’s construction manager and the BMS vendor worked closely to commission the system after installation.
